Exporting Musescore 3 files onto MAC as pdf or pmg, not transferring onto thumb drive or Windows

I'm attempting to make pdf.s of my scores from Musescore 3 on IMAC, then send them in emails for friends to use. When I view them on my IMAC, they look fine. I put them onto my thumb drive, but when I open them on any Windows computer or email (or my thumb drive on those computers), the computer says 'can not read files of this type' or 'Windows / Adobe Acrobat can not read these files.'

I tried exporting the score as a pmg/png (I forget which is the exact abbreviation) image, and got the same result: viewable on my IMAC, but seemingly not able to take off via my thumb drive.

If anyone has encountered this issue and has solution, love to hear. I would hate to compose on my IMAC (where I use Logic as well), then have to transfer the files as musescore files, re-open them on a Windows computer, then re-export them as pdfs. there...would be pretty cumbersome.

Is it as simple as, you aren't giving the file a name ending in ".pdf" or ".png" as appropriate? Without that, the system won't know how to open the file indeed, although it would still work to run PDF reader and open the file manually.

Thanks for the replies--I believe I found the hiccup. For whatever reason the Windows program / computer I had been using wasn't able to recognize the pdf. or pmg. files, and somehow interrupted the peaceful transfer when I sent them out as emails. When I used a more updated / modern Windows PC I didn't encounter the same problem.

To answer another question, yes I had been exporting them on my IMAC from the 'dialog box' either as pdf. or png. files.
