Changing Lyric font size for Musescore 3 on a Mac

• Feb 15, 2019 - 22:55

I am having trouble changing the font size of a lyric font size from 11 to 7. After I right click a lyric under a note, and select "Edit Element", and then change the number from 11 to 7, nothing changes. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do you want to change all lyrics, just one lyrics, or just one letter within a single lyric?

The method you are describing is a way to do that last of these (although no need to right-click and then Edit Element; a simple double-click on the lyrics does the same). But since this is designed for changing individual letters within a lyric, to make the change, you need to select the letter(s) you want to change.

If you want to change the entire lyric, don't do any of that. Instead, click the lyric then use the Inspector to change the size. If you then want that change to apply to all lyrics, hit the "S" (set as style) button right next to the size control.

A follow up to this question. If I want to change the font for existing lyrics, this doesn't seem to work. I have a score I downloaded from MuseScore website which has lyrics in Times Roman font. I tried to change font by going to Format>Style>Text Styles and set the font for Lyrics Odd Lines and Lyrics Even Lines to FreeSans. But after this, lyrics in the original score are still rendered in Times Roman. When select all the lyrics as described and go to the Inspector, I can change the size of the font and I see the change. But even though the Inspector shows the font as FreeSans, the lyrics in the score are still rendered in Times Roman and changing the font in the Inspector does not have any effect.
