In MS 2.3, it was very easy to select fingering even if very close to other elements. However, in MS 3.x, the focus seems to have changed and clicking on fingering is less certain near noteheads and beams.
- Open the attached score without resetting.
- Try clicking on the voice 1 LH Guitar fingering in measures 4-5.
- Compare with the same actions in in MS 2.3.

It sounds the same as the problem that would be fixed by #284493: Let Ctrl+click cycle through selection of overlapping elements. Even though the fingering doesn't overlap, there is still a problem clicking items too close together in your case.
