MuseScore 3.0.5 still acts up when exporting to MusicXML

• Mar 13, 2019 - 20:06

Hi there, I used a MuseScore file downloaded from MuseScore website (Caravan_a_jazz_band.mscz) and exported it to MusicXML file. I noticed there was problem when I opened that file with Dorico. The drum sound instead of hihat was changed to something else. So I thought Dorico has problem translating the instrument. But when I actually opened the same MusicXML file again by MuseScore, I found the instrument was changed to piano. Next time I did the same export from MuseScore and opened MusicXML with MuseScore and this time the hihat was changed to tuba or something like that. Can you please explain what is happening and how to fix this issue? Thank you. Caravan_a_jazz_band.mscz I attached the MuseScore file to this.

Hi there Marc, it could be other instrument translations in MusicXML as well, but the hi-hat is the one I noticed in one particular instance. It is good to make a template of all different instruments (let's say allocating four quarter notes to each instrument and then do the export to MusicXML and then when you open that MusicXML back in MuseScore you will find which instruments translated ok and which not.
Thanks a lot.

Hi again Marc,
I tried XML file directly from MuseScore website. The XML version is also having trouble with MuseScore. Generally as long as file is read in the browser or MSCZ file is downloaded, it is OK. The second you export to MusicXML or access music XML from the website, it all becomes a mishmash. Unfortunately I am using Dorico as well and I would love to export Music XML directly from MusicXML application and it just looks like MSCZ file but it doesn't. There is a very off situation with MusicXML export and other applications cannot real MSCZ file. I am using MuseScore 3.0.5 and in Mac High Sierra. If you know this export works just fine in the PC version, PLEASE LET ME KNOW! I can set up another computer or do something as long as I know the MusicXML export is actually working fine.
I really really appreciate if you let me know.
Thanks so much.
