- Leave Musescore open for about an hour, or longer
- Go watch YouTube during that time frame
- Return.
- Maybe it's just my pc, but the sound has a lag to it every few notes, usually a skip/buzzing noise.

It's normal that the OS would swap out a program's pages if it hasn't been used for a while and other programs need the resources, and that would indeed cause performance to suffer at first when you return. That's just how computers work. Most likely what you are seieng is just this. If you believe otherwise, do you have data to make you think that?
No. That sounds about right, actually. Though, is there a way to fix it without having to restart musescore?
Sure, just use MuseScore a while and it should gradually get better as the OS starts swapping its pages back in.
