Why did some note heads turn red?

• Apr 22, 2019 - 01:41

I imported a score from a friend's earlier version. After I transposed to Bb and saved to a new file, the next time I opened it some of the note heads are red colored. What does that mean?

Hi jotape, thanks for the reply. So, the reason the notes are out of range is that my friend has written a piece for 2 trombones and he wants me to play one of the parts on my bass clarinet. Trombone uses concert-pitch notation in bass clef, and bass clarinet uses Bb notation in treble clef, written an octave higher than it sounds. When I transpose the score to my notation, some notes show up red, because it's written as a trombone part. Just curious, is there a way to change that instrument part to bass clarinet without re-entering all the notes?

If you right click the trombone staff and choose Staff/Part properties, you can then click the Change Instruments button and change to the Bass Clarinet. You shouldn't have too many red notes as a result since their ranges in concert pitch are about the same.
