Is it possible to "loop" 2 time signatures?

• Jul 11, 2019 - 19:34

I am trying to imitate a technique Leonard Bernstein used in "On the Waterfront" where he "looped" (I can't for the life of me think of a better word to describe it) between 2/2 and 3/4, to the effect of feeling in 7/4 but being easier to read for the performers, or something. I'm not exactly sure why he did it. I'd like to loop between 9/8 and 6/8, so is there any way to notate it in a way similar to Bernstein?

You're looking for the word alternate rather than loop. There is no easy way to do this in MuseScore. You're stuck adjusting the measure lengths of each measure in this section. You can right click the key signature and make the displayed signature be 96/88 so it looks like 9/8 and 6/8, or use a picture of the 6/8 to make the time signature look right, but you still have to adjust measure lengths.
