iWriteMusic (.iwm) file import

• Jul 13, 2019 - 16:52

I occasionally use an app called iWriteMusic on my iPhone to make quick sketches of music when I'm away from my computer. It's a handy little app, and it seems to have potential, but updates are quite sporadic. Unfortunasely, their export capabilities are limited to standard MIDI and their own proprietary .iwm file format. MIDI is fine for playback, but it leaves out a lot of other data that I would like to import to MuseScore. I have requested that they add MusicXML to their options, but so far there has been no progress on that front.

Here is a short song sketch in .iwm format in case anyone cares to try to figure out their code for import.
[EDIT: that didn't work. .iwm is not a valid file format on the site. I changed the file extension to .txt for upload purposes.]

That is pretty much what I expected. My hope is that somewhere along the line, they will add MusicXML as an export option. I suspect, though, that "they" are not more than a single person working in his/her spare time to write apps, and may not have a lot of time for product updates.
