Include tubular bells among available orchestra instruments

• Aug 6, 2019 - 11:51

Tubular bells are not frequently used, but when they speak they signal a very special and deep climate (see, if not, Arvo Pärt's "Cantus In Memoriam Benjamin Britten"). They are available in the MuseScore General sound font because it is a General Midi sound, but it is not part of the instruments listed as orchestra percussion, not even in the "All instruments" list. To include a tubular bell set it is necessary to tweak an existing instrument such as the vibraphone, change its name and properties, and from the mixer select the tubular bell patch (General MIDI 14).
I think it wouldn't take much effort to include it and make it an out-of-the box instrument in its own right.
Another related request, please order the instruments in alphabetic order. It is difficult to find an instrument in a list that at the best is ordered by categories or by frequency of use.

Someone decided that tubular bells is the wrong name for chimes. It seems we're stuck with chimes. Just change the name in your score.
