delete a rest

Just starting... how do I delete a rest?

This totally depends on the reason the rest is there. If it's a regular rest in voice 1, you don't need to waste time deleting it - just replace it with what you want to see instead (a note, presumably). If your goal is actually to move the subsequent notes earlier, just do so directly - cut and paste. If it's a rest in another voice, you can click it and press delete, but I don't recommend it. Normally rests in other voices need to be shown according to the rules of notation. If you are sure this is one of the exceptions, you can instead press "V" to make it invisible. This makes it easier to edit further. Finally, if you have a default full measure rest in voice 1 because you erroneously entered music into another music but left voice 1 empty, the solution is to use Tools / Voices to move the notes into voice 1, then you can delete the other rest in the other voice.
