Duplicating a line of notes selected with Ctl. click (same thing for a chord)

• Sep 8, 2019 - 00:19

MuseScore doesn't seem to accept the following copy-paste procedure:
1 - select a line of notes using Ctl. click, say from two adjacent measures
2 - go to an empty measure later on the staff and paste that line .

I've tried and it didn't work. It seems that we can only paste notes that have been selected with shift-click.
Am I missing something here?

Another example: I select some notes (not all) from a chord to paste it later on the staff. It doesn't paste! I have to copy-paste the whole chord and then delete the notes I didn't want to copy-paste to begin with.

2 adjacent measures : select first measure by clickink an empty space, and Shift last note 2nd measure, or Ctrl-click 2nd measure (empty space) If it's good, the 2 measures become Blue . Then Ctrl-C, select the new place where you paste, (select a note or a measure) and Ctrl-V.

For the chord, how do you select severals note but not all ?? are you simply using Ctrl-Click ? are you sure to select the head of the note, and not the hamp ?

Yes, Raymond, that's exactly how I do it, which means I have to select EVERYTHING from the first to the last note of the selection (all elements inside the blue rectangle). I was thinking of a way to select SOME notes, not all, from one or more measures, copy it and paste it somewhere else. But, as Mike pointed out in his reply, I must have a CONTINUOUS selection, by clicking the first note and SHIFT clicking the last one (blue rectangle) to apply a copy-paste procedure. That answers my question.
I wonder if developing a list selection copy-paste procedure would be too much of a chore, using the qml extension creator.
Trying to be more specific, one way that would still be useful for what I'm after, would be to select the top notes of a series of chords (not the full chords) and be able to copy that top line somewhere else.

For getting "top notes only", consider the Explode Tool.

Note that pasting just a notehead will likely do something else than what you want it to do. It copies the style properties of a notehead, but when pasting, honors the duration of the element being pasted onto, rather than the element being copied from.

You are not missing anything. You must have a continuous selection (click one end and shift + click the other end) to copy and paste in MuseScore. Even if you ctrl+click everything, MuseScore considers this a list selection rather than a continuous selection and will not copy or paste.
