7alt chord exports as 7b5#5b9#9 in musicxml
Is this by design?
This is not 'wrong' but when you open the musicxml file in MS it does not go back to 7alt. Seems inconsistent: the exporter recognizes alt, but the importer 'does not'.

It's by design that it exports that way; MusicXML doesn't to my knowledge have any other way to do it. The problem with "alt" is it is fairly subjective, that's not really the only thing that could in principle be translated that way. But I don't think it's not our job to translate on import. If the MusicXML says b5#5b9#9, that's what we should display. It's conceivably we could use the "text" attribute to hint at the preferred spelling, but it's very tricky to use correctly because of a number of complexities of how harmony objects work in MusicXML.
