How do I transpose for different instruments?

Hi!

thanks for making musescore work. It's a great program and is very helpful.

The only thing i cannot figure out is how to transpose one piece for a certain instrument or key? I've googled, looked really hard and I cannot figure it out.

Thanks!

If you entered a score on an instrument, say a violin and now want it to be transposed for a clarinet, then right click the staff, choose staff/part properties, click the "Change instruments" button and select the clarinet. As long as the concert pitch button on the toolbar is not pressed, you will see the key signature and notes updated for the clarinet.

On a related note, since the violin (also the piano and most stringed instruments) is a C instrument, concert pitch is the same as transposed so this button will not change anything on the display for the violin.

MuseScore supports transposing instruments and automatically handles viewing the written and concert-pitch version of the score. See the handbook: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/transposition#transposing-instrumen…. In short, by just changing the instrument associated with the staff, the music will be automatically transposed when the "concert pitch" button is not activated, but will remain the same when the "concert pitch" button is activated.
