Staff short names
How does the staff short name relate to the instrument please? Is there any other way than typing over the short name, to alter it? If not, how does one resurrect a short name which has disappeared altogether from the left of the stave?

Left click may be the French way, but the rest of the world normally right clicks.🤣

Sure !!!! I had written right, and I delete to put LEFT !!
Thanks for showing me that. I can change the short name for that stave. Unfortunately it changes it for the whole stave and I only want that short name to apply to that stave onwards, not previous instances of the stave. As in attached file, want 'I' to show before bar 9, but not before bar 5. The Holly And The Ivy - Round.mscz

If you upgraded to version 3.3 today you can insert an instrument change and make it invisible. You don't need to do anything else with it. You can then right click the next measure, change the short name and from the instrument change forward the new name will be used.

Another way to get that effect is to simply not use the same staff for two different purposes - just use two separate staves, with separate names, and let Hide empty staves take care of showing the right one at the right time.
You can also, choose any name for this stave, and, put a name like a text, that you grag at the good place. With copy and paste, you write quicky on each page.
In french it's a "bidouille" .....
