unable to flat appropriate notes in G minor scale

• Nov 3, 2019 - 04:17

Unable to perform the aforementioned. Any thoughts on this? When I try to flat the two notes that actually get flats in the G minor scale that are Bb and Eb, Musescore will not execute. However, when I play around and try to flat other notes in the staff that do not get flats, Muse will let me perform those.

Really odd

It's not really clear what you mean, can you attach your score and tell us precisely what you are doing what you expect to see happen, and what happens instead?

After using the toolbar to force the accidentals, the score does not appear as anything is incorrect.

But, if you try to add the appropriate flats or sharps to the correct notes using the down or up arrow: Musescore does not execute the commands.

Go to the first bar and delete the flats, than try with arrows and you will see what I mean. Try and flat the B note and the E note

If you remove the flat from the first Bb in you score, then click the note, you will see that the note is a Bb already because it is dictated by the key signature. Using the up arrow key should turn that note into a C natural and it does.

These are the rules of music, so when you enter a score (or even a minor scale exercise) you will more or less hear what a musician would play.

If you are creating an exercise where you expect the student to place accidentals on notes to indicate they should be played as Bb in spite of the key signature, there is a way to make the score ignore the key signature. Create a custom key signature (press shift+k for the custom key signature palette) that looks the same as (for example) your G minor key signature. Custom key signatures do not affect notes. Their are a lot of people who would like to see this changed, so it's possible at some point in the future this will no longer work.

HTH.
