Renaming My Song In File.

• Nov 25, 2019 - 23:46

When I am looking for a song in my file folder some are as I have named them and some are simply letters and numbers. It appears that it arbitrarily decides which will be stored with the name I have given it and a computer generated number. Why do some not retain their directed title and how do I change its name once it has been stored this way?
Thank you.

The letters and numbers are probably in the format of SCxxx.mscz where xxx are random looking numbers and letters. These are auto save files. The score they are made from should be in the same folder and be at least as up-to-date as the SCxxx files. Normally these files are deleted by MuseScore when you successfully exit, their existence indicates that MuseScore did not close properly.

You can change a MuseScore file's name the same way as changing any other file name using your OS's (operating system) file explorer. That is, you navigate to the folder where the file resides and then re-name it (completely outside of MuseScore).
Alternatively, you can open the file in MuseScore and do a 'save as' and re-name the file, then delete the computer generated file.

N.B. Your score files and the computer generated files reside in different places.
