How to place chord symbols inside staff, not on top?

• Nov 26, 2019 - 22:08

Hi there,

In older versions of MS I used to make chord scores and put the symbols inside the staff... just dragging them there.
Now MS is updated dragging doesn't work anymore, the symbols keep popping back on top of the staff.
Can anyone help me out, is there a way to solve this?
best regards!

Anything can still be dragged (which is often not recommended) by pressing the alt key when drag it the first time. This disables auto placement on that item so it will no longer pop back. I don't see any harm in this with what you are describing.

Dragging is never a good way to manually position things, it's too imprecise. Better to use the cursor keys, like Ctrl+Down to move things in exactly 1sp increments, or Down by itself to move in 0.1sp incremenets. Still, whether dragging or using the cursor keys, it should work just fine to move a chord symbol onto the staff - do you perhaps have an older release still? Current is 3.3.3. If you have trouble doing this with 3.3.3, please attach your score.

In MuseScore 3, once you've moved one chord symbol onto the staff, it's really simple to make that the default for all chord symbols. Just hit staff then hit the "Set as style" ("S" icon) button next to the offset control and the "minimum distance" control (this is what allows the chord symbol to cross onto the staff). Note the "minimum distance" setting doens't matter if you've made the staff lines invisible, which I'd certainly recommend if you're putting the chord symbols there.
