Question: Merging/Splitting staves in the middle of the score
In choral scores, sometimes two voices sing the same notes. In this case, their parts merge to one staff.
For example,
(the dashes represent the staff)
First page:
Soprano1 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Soprano2 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Second page:
Soprano - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
As you can see, soprano 1 and soprano 2 merge to become just one soprano section.
Sometimes, the opposite happens. Soprano splits to Soprano 1 and 2
How does one do this in Musescore?
Thanks.

By hidding the measure in the relevant staff. Right click a measure -> Measure Properties -> Toogle visible checkbox.
Hiding one measure at a time might be quite tedious if you have a number of measures and does not actually give the desired result (the vertical space is not remove and the staff names for each instrument remains in place even if the whole line is empty).
Luckily there is a option made especially for this purpose. I suggest using it instead of the method mentioned in the previous comment. Create a score with parts for soprano 1 and soprano 2. When these parts merge, use only one of the soprano staves. When you have finished writing out the parts go to Style > Edit Style > Score and add a check mark next to "Hide Empty Staves".

If you want that the name of the unique staff be "Sop." and not "Sop1" you have just to use 3 staves: Sop1, Sop2, Sop
