stretched bar

• Nov 22, 2024 - 22:15

I copied ABC code, used EasyABC to convert to XML.
Opened the XML in MuseScore and this is the score.

One bar is insanely stretched and Reset Layout Stretch command doesn't fix it.

How do I fix it?

Dear JD,
I looked at the example you provided.
The reason the bar on the second line is
so long is because it won't fit on the first line.
You have a system break, at the end of the second
line. What you can do is: Delete the system break
at the end of the second line. This will cause a bar,
or two, to jump up from the third line. You can decide
how many bars you want on each system. It seems that
three bars is the most that will fit, so you could have:
1. Three bars, 2. Three bars and 3. Two bars before
the repeat sign. I hope that this helps.

The problem here is that, by removing the system break in bar 5 (which is usually the recommended solution as provisional treatment), another system break is reconstituted, and so on with subsequent systems.

And since, "Reset Layout Stretch command" doesn't fix it, "Restore the layout of the entire score" (menu Format), will immediately have a better effect. Result: 1WiseMaid.mscz

If you like, we can leave it at that. Then, personally, for a better balance of bars, I'd prefer this (modifying margins and scale very slightly, in Page Settings): 2WiseMaid.mscz

Or, with less space between staves: 2WiseMaid.mscz

Among other possibilities... according to your preferences.😎
