All audio playback only comes out as a loud static noise. It happens on playback and on note input. It started suddenly about 2 weeks ago. I uninstalled and re-installed but the issue persists

A cure may have been found : #280493: [MacOS] Inputting notes results in a cracking noise. A dear departed friend of mine used to extend (jocularly) the C/C++ distinction (I guess from FORTRAN and PL/I) of "internal static" (i.e., caused by loose connections in the radio) and "external static" (caused by electromagnetic interference from the guy next door with a diathermy machine).
For people who have this issue, what type of headphones are you using, if you're using any? I tried using a pair of USB headphones as opposed to my normal headphones and it fixed the issue.
