creating upbeat in first bar, and changing the time signature for the first bar.

• Jan 25, 2020 - 03:15

Wondering if a new version would help, I downloaded version 3.3.4.24412, but still cannot find the help I need.
I have a downloaded copy of Handbook for Musescore 2, but cannot find how to download Handbook for MuseScore 3.
I have found some information about editing the properties of a measure, but have been unable to locate the dialog box for "Measure Properties" that might enable me to make the changes I wish to make to the first bar(measure). Can anyone help, please? Summer.mscz

The Handbook for MuseScore 3 is available bi clicking Help / Online Handbook from within MuseScore, then clicking the Download link.

Nothing has changed regarding how to reach Measure Properties between MuseScore 2 and 3, though - right-click the measure (Ctrl+click or two-finger tap on most devices that lack a right button), choose "Measure Properties" from the menu that pops up. It's called "Bar Properties" in the UK, and I believe the UK versio of the Handbook probably says that.

I should add, though, there is an easier way in MuseScore 3 to convert a measure into a pickup if you neglected to specify it when creating the score - just select the rests you don't want and press Ctrl+Delete.

Thank you Marc. The problem is that when I click inside the measure, I do not get the pop-up to edit the measure and so am unable to change its time signature from 4/4 to 1/4
I have tried your suggestion of deleting the rests, but the measure still contains 2 beats instead of one, and consequently shifts a note back into that first measure which should come on the first beat of the next measure .

Right-click means, click with right as opposed to left mouse button, or use equivalent gesture as per your particular computer (eg, Ctrl+click, two-finger tap).

Regarding deleting the rest, it needs to be Ctrl+Delete, not regular Delete. This does not move any notes from measure to measure, it simple removes the selected range of notes/rests completely. So, if you select a quarter rest and press Ctrl+Delete, you are left with a measure containing one fewer beats than it did before, with nothing else changed.
