entering notes

The videos on entering notes show four notes (4/4) in each bar then automatically moves to the next bar. I tried to follow the same steps, but after the adding the fourth notes it still enters the next notes in the same bar (and the rest cannot be deleted) . I am still new to this and learning how to use it through the videos.
