Cannot drag grace notes and other items from the palettes.
Hello, i'm using musescore ver 3.4.2.9788 , i'm trying to add grace notes but it doe not allow me to do so. In fact i cannot drag most of the items from the palettes. It only works by clicking the items in the palettes and it will add to the music sheet. Drag and drop does not work with a red cross line.
The problem with click and adding the grace notes is i'm unable to move it to a different line.
any help please?

Drag a grace note symbol from a palette onto a regular note Drag to the note and release when it changes color.
It seems you're experiencing the effects of a really bad decision by Microsoft to not clearly show the "hotspot" of the not-allowed mouse pointer. I believe the point you should drag onto the note (a small area) is the top-left corner of the square that would fit around the prohibited symbol.
When you hit that, the symbol will change into the allowed symbol/normal mouse pointer allowing you to drop the thing.
The reason for not seeing this complaint here more often, is because most users simply click the palette item to apply it, as that is way faster.
To change the pitch of the grace note after having added it, you can select it and use up and down arrows (or enter a new pitch), just as with a regular note.

hi .. yes found out that doing the other way around was much easier by just clicking it and using 'fix to line' option to move the grace note..
Thanks ..

Fix to line should only be used in very specific cases, it only visually shows the note on a different position without changing the actual note/pitch itself!

doesn't apply to me .. cause i'm using it for drums.. : ) and that works as we use grace notes as 'flams'.

Up and Down arrows then work to, to cycle through the available notes of the drumset.

Interesting use case! I agree fix to line sounds like the right tool for the job, since you want the same sound presumably just a different display. As you've probably noticed, drag & drop doesn't change the story here, either way, grace notes are always added at the same pitch then you need to change it yourself.
