Install Help on Windows 10

• Apr 21, 2020 - 21:13

Hello,

I downloaded Musescore for my Windows 10 desktop and after getting some errors about not having the Yamaha / Steinberg driver the program successfully ran. However, the app crashed after 15 minutes of trying to learn the program. I could never get the program to run again. I uninstalled using the Windows Uninstaller and after reinstalling, rebooting, and no success I've uninstalled using the Musescore uninstaller. Bottom line, after many reboots and re-downloads I can't get the program to run. I wonder if I've screwed up the Microsoft Registry. The good news is that I can get Musescore to run on my Windows 10 laptop. Any help????

Also, what is the best way to support the app? Does Musescore benefit if I buy the $25 online course?

Reverting to factory settings did not work because every time I try to run the Musescore program my computer reacts as if I am trying to INSTALL, not RUN the program. :(

Summary actions after many attempts to install is as follows:
1- I used a different browser and chose the 'install' option in downloading the file
2- After 2 minutes the "User Account Control" asked me if I will allow your app to make a change on my computer - I clicked "yes"
3 - Everything proceeded normally with files being installed, registry changes, removal of files, etc
4 - I was prompted with a 'Finish' box and they option to run Musescore right away - I clicked 'yes"
5 - The box seen in attachment popped up
6 - I clicked 'OK'
7 - The same box (in attachment) returned after a few seconds
8 - The Windows Installer came up with the message "Preparing to Install" and hung. (Curious that it was trying to install again rather than run the program)
9 - After a long time, 10 minutes one time, 2 hours another, I hit cancel
10 - After a long time, 15 - 60 minutes, the system said that it is still cancelling.
11 - I used the Windows Task Manager to 'End Task'
12 - The program does not start, it tries to install again after opening the program from the Start menu, or by double-clicking the file you sent of a test sheet of music made with Musescore

Any future attempts to run the program results in a cycle of items #8-11 above.
Uninstalling using Windows and reinstalling causes the same problem.
Uninstalling using the Musescore uninstaller, and then reinstalling causes the same problem.
I have rebooted, re-downloaded, re-installed 5-8 times with the same result.

Additional key info is that my first try at installing was successful. After 10 minutes I crashed the program- probably due to me not knowing how to use the features, and subsequent installs always cause the same problem, described above.

Please help!

C:\Program Files\MuseScore 3

but curiously, there is a folder in a different directory that has the problematic Yamaha/Steinberg name...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Yamaha\Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver

Also, I tried the Musescore restore to factory settings using the Command Line interface

Thanks so much for caring. I am astonished at the promptness of replies.

Amazing! Great Job! I removed the Yamaha Steinberg folder and still had the same problem. I used Windows to "Uninstall" Yamaha Steinberg, rebooted the computer and EUREKA the Musescore Install worked perfectly! Thank You!

As far as supporting your team, do you get money if I pay for the online course? Is there a better way to contribute financially to your work? In case it matters, I just plan on using the software to create and print drumsticking rudiments...

Thanks again,

Gary
