Please attach your score (or a relevant example) and explain exactly where you are attempting to add the "box" (do you mean frame?).
Also enumerate the steps you perform and at what point the crash occurs.
See:

yes I was trying to modify the frame. Which I have done many times with other versions without difficulty. MuseScore repeatedly crashed, about a dozen times in fact.

Can you give precise steps to reproduce the issues? I had no problems deleting or otherwise modifying the frames.

Why do you have all of verse 5 and all of verse 6 entered as system text attached to a single measure? (It wreaks havoc when re-arranging sytem breaks, for instance.) Why not use a frame?
Why the empty text frame immediately below the frame for verses 2,3,4.
Again... as I wrote before:

This is the file as it was at the start. Not how it is now, frames in place, text added.
However, working with that file, after each edit I would have to save after each single step, for every second or third edit, of any kind, would result in MuseScore crashing.

So, you cannot make it crash anymore? That would be unfortunate, we'd certainly like to investigate. but to be clear, in order to do so, we need a precise series of instructions to follow in order to reproduce the crash, because nothing I try has crashed.

I am at work now but when I get the opportunity, I will see what I can do. MuseScore has been sending automated crash reports.
