Musescore crashing when I make a new score SOS!

• May 16, 2020 - 03:00

Hi, I've never posted on a forum like this so bare with me and the details, because i don't know whats relevant and what's not.
I just recently bought a new Lenovo Chromebook and I'm trying to install the latest version of Musescore available with Linux. I followed the instructions in the handbook on how to install Musescore, and I've watched the video attached with the instructions. Here's where i got the instructions: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/install-chromebook
Everything goes smoothly but whenever I try to run the program with the ./ command, I start seeing differences from the video. Musescore gives me the option to create a score, but then once I hit finish, the program crashes, and my chromebook turns off for a moment. Then once it turns back on, Musescore isn't open anymore, and all other apps open are off. I'm going to attach pictures of what I'm entering into the terminal, so hopefully somebody can help me figure it out, I'd really appreciate it! I'd love to offer any clarification that would help push us towards finding a conclusion :)

Unfortunately ChromeOS 81 broke a few things for Linux apps, so some workarounds are currently needed.

First, go to chrome://flags in your browser and find crostini-cpu-support and disable it. This will avoid a problem you may have seen where part of the screen is black.

Then in the MuseScore installation instruction, do the optional part where it says to “install” the AppImage. It was always useful - it lets you run MuseScore from the Launcher - but it is now necessary to avoid to avoid crashing the system every time you close a window. The bug will supposedly be fixed in ChromeOS 83, and maybe there will also be an update for 81 that fixes it.

There are still a few other things that don’t seem to work quite right in ChromeOS 81, but these two steps allow you to at least start working with MuseScore.

Hi, thanks so much for the response! Im not sure how to install the app image, this is what im trying to enter into the terminal. This is probably the most complicated computer work ive ever faced, so im still not really sure if anything im doing is right haha. Also there's no "crostini-cpu-support" but there is a 'Crostini GPU Support" and i disabled it. When do you thing that chromeOS 83 will be out, because im not very confident that ill be able to fix this problem

Not sure which directions you were trying to follow, but that’s definitely not how to install an AppImage. There is no “apt-get” in the command line, and the “install” goes after the AppImage. Type the command exactly as shown In the instructions and it should work, but if you try improvising without being a system administration expert, probably it won’t go well.

The crostini option you disabled is the right one. The description of the option has the spacers and capitalization, but the option itself is as I described it, and it is listed way in addition to the description.
