Inspector not working

• May 18, 2020 - 22:56

I'm using Inspector to add color and frame to system text. It worked on ONE measure after several tries and now, I can not get it to work for any other measures. Why won't it work??

OR Is there a way to cut/paste the first system text (red "C" with red circle frame) to other notes?

Thanks!

Make sure you're not editing the text while changing settings in the inspector. They won't stick in the current versions (this has been fixed for 3.5)

If you want all your chord symbols to look like that. then after changing the first, press the "Set as Style" button at the end of the setting.

Thank you. After another hour, I finally got a second chord to respond to the changes in Inspector (first measure, second line). I do not see "Set at Style". Am I in the wrong place? I get to Inspector by going to View - Inspector, or by clicking Control (I'm on a Mac). This is what it looks like when I click on the chord symbol in the first measure (one of the two correct ones).

The “Set as style” button is the S to the right of each property.

You will need to click the S button next to each property that you've changed and that you'd like to use as the default for all elements of the same type (in this case, chord symbols). As you click each S you should see all of the other chord symbols in your score immediately change to match the formatting.

BTW, is there a reason you are using system for what I assume are actually chord symbols? TTrue chord symbols are much easier to enter - Ctrl+K to enter the first then keep hitting Tab to move the the next measure and type the next etc. Plus it has the advantage of transposing, or exporting to MusicXML, or reading correctly with a screenreader, and, starting in MuseScore 3.5, playing back if desired.

Thank you! I will use that method for my older classes- that sounds much easier!
The music pictured above is for my 3 & 4 yr old ukulele summer camp. We use Boomwhackers and Prodigies solfege programs which are color-coordinated. Since we are doing our camps online this summer due to COVID 19, I have mailed the kids little red stickers to put on the ukulele neck so they will know where to put their fingers for the C chord. Using red circles for the chord names just gives a little visual reminder of how they are all related. (Reinventing the wheel for this new normal!)

Thanks, everyone, for the help! My main problem was I was highlighting the text instead of highlighting the element (as jeetee mentioned). VERY subtle difference, but now that see it, it's going pretty quickly. I really appreciate y'all taking the time to offer advise. Thank you!
