score playback tempo

Hey.

Just noticed the playback speed of my score is considerably faster from the Musescore app itself than from when I export the song to mp3.

I'm guessing you are using the Play Panel to temporarily override the actual tempo of your song as controlled by the tempo text within it. Set the temporary override back to 100% and then set the tempo you want in the score itself via tempo text.

I will compare with metronome and let you know what I figure out later when I do this. But I can tell you right now the program was playing back faster. Here's what I was doing.

I was working on a song to record. I was using a backtrack produced by IRealPro. I exported it to midi and to mp3. I opened the backtrack midi with musescore and added a track to play along with. It was great to be able to practice following along with the musescore playback.

When I went to record I added the mp3 backtrack from IRealPro to Audacity. Then I pressed record, went to Musescore, pressed play, and recorded my clarinet playing following along with the song on Musescore. Now when I went back to audacity to sync the new track with the backtrack I found that the new track was short.

I repeated this process a couple times to make sure everything (and everyone) was sane. The same thing happened every time. So I exported the midi backtrack from Musescore to mp3 to compare with the track generated by IRealPro. They were the same.

After closer listening to Musescore playback compared with the generated mp3s I could hear a notable difference in tempo.

Oh, so are you talking about something really subtle, like on the order of 1% or so? My test wasn't that scientific. Does you compute have some sort of "overclocking" or other hardware thing going on where the system timer might be running fast for some reason? I could see this affecting playback differently from mp3 export.

Sorry It took me so long to get back to this. This is confusing for me so here is a video with a song rendered but the video from musescore playblack. The song is at 120 bpm and by the end of the video there is a large difference between the position of the audio and that of the video. The music ends 10 seconds before the video.
