change length of first measure
I made a piano treble 4/4 melody that starts out with
a measure that has 2 8th notes at the far end but
rests at the beginning.
How do I change that beginning measure to
have only the 2 pickup notes?

Easiest answer today is to select the rests you want to delete and press Ctrl+Delete.

Still won't take care of the "exclude from measure count" though ;-)
