Getting paid for scores?

• Sep 13, 2020 - 20:47

Hey everyone,

I'm wanting to go pro on musescore, and my dad is helping me. We have looked at multiple discussions but have not found the answer to our question. A little while ago, musescore made it so that free users could no longer download any scores, then made it so that they could download any from the public domain. Musescore's reason for this was so that copyright holders would be able to get paid.

Our question: If I upload an original score and someone downloads it, do I get any money from that? If musescore is trying to pay copyright holders for having their music downloaded, will I, a small independent artist, get the money I deserve for someone downloading my score?

I hope you guys can help me with this. If not, I'm going to ask musescore itself, and if I get a response, I will let you guys know.

Thanks,

You, as a copyright holder (regardless of how small or big you are) will have to negotiate a license deal with musescore.com.
