Single voice

Hi.
I`m writing score for 4 voices.
If I want to listen e.g. only bas voice, how do I do that?

I also looked to solo voices in MuseScore was surprised that voice solo/mute is not part of the toolbar.

And I don't see a voice Solo option in the Mixer, just Mute buttons. I think the lack of voice Solo is a significant oversight. (For the record, I do see the Solo option per instrument, but that would affect all voices on the staff.)

Also:

  • on Mute the notes in the muted voice(s) should be dimmed or grayed
  • on Solo all other un-soloed voices should be dimmed or grayed

Naturally dimming could be a preference.

Yes, I commented that I found the voice Mute buttons in the Mixer.
I was just expressing my surprise that there are no voice Solo buttons there.

And interestingly the image at the link you posted shows two rows of buttons. Here on the Mac I see only one row. (Oops. I was hoping the lower row was an unlabeled Solo row, but MuseScore shows one row per staff.)

From that link:
"Each row represents a different staff within a part. So pressing '2' on the top row will mute the second voice on the first staff of the part."
In other words, an instrument like piano (2 staves) will show two rows of buttons; pedal organ (3 staves) will show 3 rows.

You can solo a voice by muting the others. Since there is a 4 voice limit per staff (and lots of times only 2 voices are needed per staff) it's no big deal.
(Unlike an orchestral score of, say 30 instruments, where muting 29 to have one play solo would be burdensome - which is why both solo and mute buttons appear in the mixer's track area.)
