Tempo - bpm
The tempo, for example 120bpm, does not match up to 120bpm on a metronome.
I double checked this with a friends metronome and the two devices match each other not the program.
Any ideas?

I have two metronomes here, a mechanical one, which does seem slightly off, and an electronic one, which seems a perfect match with that of MuseScore
Perhaps your score is in compound time, and the beat is actually the dotted quarter note? If you attach your score we might be able to gain more insight.
