The language of dialogs and error messages on "Check for update" follow the Operating System's language setting, not MuseScore's
E.g. on a Windows with German settings and a MuseScore being set to English(US) those dialogs show in German
Seems to be the case for both, Windows and Mac (using WinSparkle resp. Sparkle for this autoupdating stuff)
Might be something we can't do anything against, other than report to the (Win)Sparkle folks...

This is a regression against at least MuseScore 2.3.2 (which might have used a different method for those auto updates)
