No playback
New installation. No playback. The view menu has synthesizer and mixer greyed out, playback controls greyed out.. In preferences, I/O has no drop down in PortAudio. No amount of installing new/replacement soundfonts makes any difference. Doesn't recognize a synthesizer attached to computer. No playback capability of any kind.

I have gone thru this checklist without success. I see Musescore in the volume mixer unmuted. The synthesizer and mixer choices in the view menu remain unavailable and there is no drop down in the I/O preference.

I'm guessing that means you have a Windows version. What sound card do you have? Do you have midi devices?

Computer is Dell with Windows 10, 64 Bit, and plenty of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660. I'm using a UGREEN USB Audio Adapter External Stereo Sound Card although I also have a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Studio USB Audio Interface and Realtek for output.
Playback on Finale works fine.
I have a YAMAHA keyboard attached which acts as a MIDI device.

Have you tried this:
"In case of interference with other programs, esp. on Windows, go into your soundcard configuration from Control Panel and ensure that the Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device in the Advanced tab of both Playback and Recording is unticked."
