Steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Create a new score with more than 1 staff
  2. Go to the instrument panel
  3. Bug: only one checkmark is visible

You can add other instruments or staves, but you can control visibility of only the first instrument group you added originally, regardless of the sort order of the staves.

I can't reproduce. If I create a score with Banjo and harp, just like you did, and then open the Instruments dialog, I see the "visible" box for both parts
Indeed you can't set staves' visibility, only parts', that much is by design

While you are adding instruments, you cannot add an instrument and make it invisible in the same step. You must add the instrument, then open the instruments dialog again to make it invisible. Perhaps this is what you experienced.

This was indeed what I experienced. I guess it is a bit of confusing UX, and also might not be super clear that only parts can be toggled visibility and not single staves, but that'd be my feedback.

I again sincerely thank you for the speed of your responses, and sorry if I took your time, then. The ticket can be closed.
