SVG vector images scale up horizontally on import

• Dec 7, 2020 - 08:48

On multiple occasions I noticed that imported SVG graphics were scaled horizontally in MuseScore. I can roughly fix this in the Inspector by decreasing the value of Size>W, but I'd be more comfortable if MuseScore imported images without altering their aspect ratio. (Perhaps something's required, like an explicit bounding box on vectors?)

So I performed a test in preparing to make a report. I created a simple SVG square and to my surprise, on import it loaded fine.

Here's the SVG square:

Today I created and imported an SVG slash strum symbol. And on import the x scaling was quite noticeable.

The Inspector showed Size>W and Size>Y both = 4.0
And if I set X = 2 the symbol looks about right.

Here's the SVG slash symbol:

The following image shows the imported slash in museScore and the SVG file previewed on the Mac. Note that I set X = 2 to achieve aspect ratio parity between the import and the accurately previewed file. (The file open with scaling issues in Illustrator, Affinty Designer and my browsers.)

Thanks for any help on this!
