'Save Online' button crashes MuseScore.

• Dec 23, 2020 - 23:25

I use a lot of third-party soundfonts on MuseScore, which is why I mainly use the Save Online feature, since, to the extent of my knowledge, this is the only way I can upload the same score audio directly without having to link a YouTube video with the score. Unfortunately, this feature has stopped working for me. Every time I press on the Save Online button, the program stops responding seconds after, and MuseScore crashes. I then go and check the 'My Scores' section of my account, in hopes of seeing anything uploaded, but unfortunately, nothing has been uploaded. This has happened to me in all the times I have pressed on the Save Online function, so I can 'assure' you it is 100% faulty. I wanted to upload the score using my preferred soundfonts, but unfortunately, I have to wait until this issue gets solved. So, is there any solution to this issue?

*Since this information might be useful, I am using the latest version of MuseScore 3.5, which is 3.5.2.311459983.

Yes, MuseScore used to and still crashes whenever I also open the Start Centre. When I open MuseScore, it doesn't open the Start Centre automatically like it normally does, and that is because I think I changed a setting for it or something, not really sure. But yes, now when I tried opening the Start Centre, MuseScore crashed. This got me curious though, is there a correlation between both features which causes the program to crash?

I have followed the exact set of instructions that you gave me, yet the problem has not yet been fixed, unfortunately. I have also not reset MS to its factory settings, as I have made lots of custom palettes and shortcuts that are very beneficial to me throughout MS 3, and they save me lots of time when writing new scores. Plus, we don't really know if reverting MS to its factory settings will solve this issue, so honestly speaking, I really don't want to risk it and lose my custom palettes and shortcuts. Do you think there could there be any solution at all to this issue?

Revert to factory settings is a very extreme option in my opinion and I do try to avoid suggesting it for the very reasons you say. You can save workspaces, palettes and shortcuts then restore them after the factory rest to make recovering from it easier. These files should not be the cause of your problem, so restoring your customization should be safe.

I don't know all of the customizations you might have made so I'm not sure of all the files you would want to save. Perhaps there is someone who could give you a good list. Also -R should restore factory settings while keeping your customizations but I still suggest that you back them up and let us know how it worked.

I can say from experience that reverting to factory settings does not lose custom workspaces, at least it hasn't for me. But you do lose other customizations. You can save your shortcut customizations to a file using edit / Preferences / Shortcuts. Aside from that, there really aren't that many preferences you could lose. You could just make a note of them and then restore them manually.

That said, I rather doubt it would help. A crash on save online sounds like an installation problem, so it's really surprising the repair didn't fix it. Did it report any warnings or other messages during the repair? You could also try uninstall / reinstall, with a reboot in between. That won't lose anything elther.

Does the Start Center open OK?
