Can't install any version of MuseScore due to a feature being "on a network resource that is unavailable".
I'm trying to install the new MuseScore 3.6. (Specifically 3.6.0.487915773-x86_64.)
I downloaded the .msi installer and try to run it, when I do, it gets to a stage where it says that it is "removing software", and pops upp an error box that reads:
The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'MuseScore-3.4.2-x86_64.msi'
Weird, I think, this installer really shouldn't need some random old one to install the new version, but ok. I track down that specific installer, and put it in my Downloads folder, and give it the path. I've tried giving it the path with the file name, and just the directory. In both cases it reacts as though the file isn't there.
Since it seems to be wanting to uninstall an old version of MuseScore, I'll just uninstall it myself, then. I try the normal uninstall method, and I get the same message, not letting me uninstall. Fine, I track down every MuseScore-related file and delete them myself, and try to install 3.6 again. Nope. Same error. Which means that I'm now stuck without any version of MuseScore installed, and no way to install one.
Is there a solution to this? Or maybe there is an installer that doesn't have to uninstall my previous version before installing a new one?
(Don't tell me to run as administrator. .msi files don't offer that, and will request admin rights when needed, which this installer does do. I have tried forcing it to run as admin, however, and as expected it makes no difference.)

As I said, I have tried that.

Took it from https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases/tag/v3.4.2 ?

That worked! Downloading it from the GitHub worked, but using the 3.4.2 installer from the Musescore website didn't. Thanks!

Now I'm wondering where you've downloaded the 3.4.2 installer from the website?

I'm not able to find my way back to it, but this is my browser's listed download link.

I guess it must've been from OSU. I was lead there from a link on musescore.org.
(I did also try with the installer that I had left over from when I actually installed version 3.4.2, but that didn't work either.)

Strange, should've worked out just as well as the github one as far as I'm aware.
I'll just make sure to forward other users to the github versions first if this need pops up again.

Yes, I got the installer from there.
I took a look at the thread. I have disabled Windows Defender and tried using a third party uninstaller to force remove all traces of MuseScore. Since I already manually removed it, the only thing left were some reg.keys.
After that, the 3.6 installer still keeps doing the same thing.
The portable installer does work however, so cheers for that, but naturally I'd like to get the normal installer working.
I have the same problem. What shall I do?

The same as described further up
I have the same issue. I cannot upgrade because the old .msi file is missing. Why it is not on my drive is a mystery. No reason to ever touch it, but it is gone for what ever reason. I cannot do a regular uninstall of the previous version for the same reason: .msi file is missing. How do I fix this???

Same as above, by downloading the "old" msi file and pointing the installer to it.

Although I never understood why this is needed. It shouldn't.

I'm not home to test your suggestion of getting the old installer from the GitHub instead of the Musescore website, but the reason is likely that it uses the old installer to know how to remove the old version. Though, IMO it just shouldn't remove the old version at all. It should just install the new version next to the old one like Blender does.

It needs to remove remnants of the old one first though

That's my point. It shouldn't. It should leave the old one there too, so I can use it if I need to.
