MIDI Instrument Audio When Not In Input Mode

• Mar 11, 2021 - 19:09

The MIDI input feature is so handy I stopped composing on paper, and go directly to note input mode of MuseScore. My usual workflow is to “practice/audit play” a few measures on my MIDI keyboard listening to audio from MuseScore (Fluid Synth), then press “N” to go into note entry mode for transcription (with my left hand over the number keys!)

Problem: When working with multiple staffs, MuseScore only plays the instrument sound of the very top staff until Input Mode (“N”) is entered. For example if I am writing a piano & cello duet with cello as the first staff, even if an element on piano staff is selected by a mouse, MuseScore plays back cello sound until Input Mode is active on the piano measure.

Thank you for your consideration!

Improvement Request: MIDI input feature would be perfect if MuseScore could play back the MIDI notes using the instrument audio of any staff with some “clicked” element, when NOT in Input Mode.

Workaround: Current workaround for me is to press “I” to bring up Instruments screen, and move up my active staff to very top. This is very cumbersome when working on full orchestra score, or a jazz composition with a drum-set instrument.
