if playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device" error
I've come across a problem just lately that according to the forum has been reported in previous years-as far back as 2017 I believe.
When musescore is open utube stops loading, displaying "if playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device".
I also found that VLC would show a video but not play audio.
As this was the first time it's occurred I thought what have I done most recently. That answer was I had started to use the midi i/o.
In preferences i/o tab, as soon as I reverted back to 'pulseaudio' from 'portaudio' the video started normally (sound and vision) as did VLC. Of course I need portaudio to connect my UM1 midi interface.
My setup is:- Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS 64bit Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2) MuseScore-3.5.2.312125617-x86_64.AppImage rev:465e7b6

Thanks for reply Jojo, but I don't see any relevant topic there. Just to clarify, I'm talking about utube stopping loading/playing (and VLC when I checked) where I had Musescore open with a file and was going to modify something when I needed to load up a video help clip. Changing the midi settings restored utube working. I was not connected to nor using the midi connection at the time.
In reply to Thanks for reply Jojo, but I… by mark a detime
So step 4 or 5 of that procedure.
Another method is to prevent exclusive access to the sound drivers

Ok, so this is how it turned out. I connected the um1g midi interface, started utube (working ok), went to prefs' I/O tab and at first couldn't see the um1 in the portaudio settings. I started my script playing and was hearing both utube and script. Pressed 'Restart Audio and MIDI Devices' and the um1 was available, but now utube stalled. I then pressed the 'DIN socket' button in the menu then pressed again to reselect. Bingo! commands were being sent to um1, utube could work and also ( simultaniously if wished) script playback.
So no longer a problem. I can now see a use for the DIN socket button.
Thanks for your help Jojo.
