invisible instruments until performance
Not sure how to describe it...
I would like for the score to not show a particular instrument in the systems until that instrument comes in much later, upon which, this page would show that instrument. Then once it's finished it's part the consecutive pages no longer show it.
Is this possible?
I have tried making the instrument not visible in bar properties, but the glaring space in the score is not ideal.

Actually, it is close. But i should be more specific.
Is there a way to have every page but one hide just this instrument?

Just make sure itis not empty on those other pages
You could for example add a note in voice 2, make it silent and invisible

I usually resort to a transparent staff text, less intrusive when exporting to different formats.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if you're saying you want other staves to continue to show when empty, only this one should be hidden when empty, then no need to resort to invisible text or anything like that. Leave Format / Style / Score / Hide empty staves turned off, because you don't want that for other staves. Then right-click the staff you want hidden when empty, Staff/Part Properties, and set "Hide when empty" to "Always".
