Spacing when different voices have notes of different lengths
I'm trying to find a setting that will deal with the spacing issue shown in the screenshot.
When voice 2 has a dotted minim, the quavers in voice 1 have additional space after the first note. I know I can check auto relayout, but (a) that has to be done beam by beam, I think; and (b) anyway, auto relayout doesn't seem to affect the spacing of quavers in the vocal line above, meaning things get out of line. I can also adjust each manually, but ... life is actually too short for that.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Change the quavers head?

Thanks - but the issue isn't the fact that the notehead isn't shared; it has to be offset, both because of the notehead and the dot. It's that the offset notehead shoves the next quaver too far to the right. Is there a spacing setting that would override that?

That's why you (should) want shared noteheads
