There are 2 things you have to do to get MuseScore 4.x to run under MSVC in debug mode.

  1. comment out the following at the bottom of "src/main/cmakelists.txt" -- otherwise the program will not start. If you try to remove "--debug" using properties MSVC will keep adding it back in. Maybe there is a better way to work around this but commenting out these lines seems to work.

  1. The executable (musescore4.exe) is not copied to the install/bin folder after a build. Select the mscore project and add a "post build event" to copy the exe.

It seems to build and run cleanly after 1. and 2. above.
