Volume of notes when clicking on them

Hi! I'm a beginner at using Musescore, so I hope this is not a ridiculous question.

I am writing a piece which is mostly piano throughout, so naturally I need to have my headphones/system output set at a high volume so that I can hear everything. An issue for me is that whenever I click on a note, Musescore plays it much louder -- presumably at mezzo-forte -- which is too loud given my headphone output!

Is there a way to make selected notes sound at the dynamic they are marked to be played at? It seems to me that this would be a preferable default for any score, not just my very quiet score. Thank you.
