Swing notation

• Aug 26, 2021 - 14:31

I want to include notation with triplets to indicate type of swing in my score.
https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/swing says that you can't do it atm in tempo markings, and mentions workaround via images. I tried it, and it has unpleasant drawback -- unlike tempo markings or "swing" notation, it is not global - if i apply image to a note, and i hide stave with that note, image hides as well. You can attach image to frame, but i was unsuccesful in my attempts to create frame that is pinned to a note in the same way global text (like "swing" or tempo markings) pins to a note. Is there any smart workaround that i miss?

Standard music fonts contain the characters you'd need to build this image yourself. Musical characters can be added to any text via the Special Characters dialog (press F2 while editing text to display this). I build the following text that way, and although it shows as garbage in your browser, it works to paste this into MuseScore:

 =  

So add the regular Swing text from the palette (which is system text) and then if you also want to further clarify with the graphic, just paste in that string.

When i tried to do it myself from F2, I managed to do smth like this

so, there are two problems
1)notes are higher than "=" symbol
2)triplet notation split connected notes (i tried to do connected 16th and 8th on the right side of equation)

There is an obvious workaround (make = as one text, note as another, and triplet as third), but may be there is something i am doing wrong and there is more elegant solution?

My musescore file and screenshot of how text after "swing" looks for me
Version is 3.6.2 (linux appimage, downloaded yesterday to check if this is old version problem), edwin font

from first two 8th notes and up to the "plane" symbol is text that you gave on your first answer; notes from this part of text are centered okay around "equal" symbol, but i have no idea how to get these symbols

after that two 16th notes and two 8th notes are from F2 "beamed group of notes" submenu - they are too small and too high
then hand
then after hand one half note and one whole note from F2 "single note" submenu - same problem
then 8
then after 8 one quarter from F2 "metronome marks" submenu - somewhat ok, but still a but too big, and there is no grouped notes in this submenu
