Copying & pasting just a section of lyrics

• Sep 13, 2021 - 16:35

Not having much luck with this.

I have a chorus section that repeats in second line of lyrics (same notes & rhythm).

I select just that section of lyrics. Then do control+L and "paste" and nothing happens.

If I use the copy lyrics command it starts pasting all the lyrics from beginning.

What am I doing wrong. Have taken mastering musescore class but it doesn't cover copying lyrics
Thx

This is what I do. It's a roundabout way, but it works.
1. Highlight the lyrics in the chorus and press ctrl-c.
2. While the text is still highlighted, use the inspector and change the Verse value to 2
3. Highlight the note where the chorus starts and press ctrl-v.

seems to work thanks. So, I guess you are shifting the 1st verse down to the second and when you paste them back into that note it is apply that to the 1st verse. I expected that when I did your step 3 that something funky would happen if I didn't first do a Control+L after selecting the note (I thought I would try to put the words in the notation staff (or just balk and do nothing).

Almost seems like a glitch or a feature request. I would think lots of folks would want to copy and paste sections of lyrics that repeat throughout songs. I might have to do a feature request.

anyway, thanks

MuseScore "knows" that you have copied lyrics. You select a note to tell MuseScore where the pasted lyric should begin.
The procedure is similar when copy/pasting chord symbols. There is no need for Control+K to specify chord symbol entry before pasting.

Copying and pasting lyrics is actually quite simple. just select the lyrics you want to copy (eg, click the first, shift+click the last), Ctrl+C to copy, then click the destination note, Ctrl+V to paste. The "Copy lyrics to clipboard" command is not related to this, it's for putting the lyrics on the standard OS-level clipboard for use in other applications like word processors, not to copy elsewhere within MuseScore.

This method of copying and pasting similar elements together is covered for sure in my Mastering MuseScore course - see the lessons on making selections and on copy/paste.
