lyric placement for bass and treble to middle

• Oct 10, 2021 - 02:18

Hello
I tried using Format / Style / lyric - to change the lyric placement to the middle of the staff. It either goes below or top. When I put notes into Bass the lyrics are below or I have to move them to the middle. I tried partialising the measures to put two on top and two on bottom so they meet in the middle. I'm missing a step.
Cheers

Any lyrics syllable goes either below the note it is attached to (default) or above it.
If in a piano staff you have some lyrics attached to notes in treble clef and others to notes in bass clef, you need to "up" those in bass clef, but they them still won't be on the same line as those from treble clef.

" I just wanted the visual look to be on same space"

Are you looking for the same space above the lyrics as below the lyrics? Like this:

To get this "balanced" look, I did the following:
1. Enter the lyrics, then select all lyrics, and use the Inspector to change the Verse from 1 to 3.
2. In Format > Style... > Page, reduce the Max stave distance from 20sp to 13sp.

If you attach the score you are having trouble with, we can understand and assist better.

But my guess is, you are writing something like music for children with a single melody that moves between the two staves but you want the lyrics to stay between the staves. Best way to do that is enter the lyrics normally then select the ones on the bottom staff and use "X" to flip above.

Glad to hear it! The trick usually after this is getting the separate sets of lyrics to align with each other. Some amount of manual fiddling with lyric position or staff distance (via spacers) is normally needed. If you need further assistance, just attach your score and we can advise.
