Automatic linked staff
Hello!!! This post is on a problem that I have had before and had to fix manually and I just had it again. I make very large scores for different types of ensembles and I like to make my own custom templates.
I make a sources score that I edit and copy to make the other templates. The problem is not that process, the problem comes when I used said templates and I try writing for any grand staff instruments. On the original source score all instruments are perfectly fine and arranged exactly how I like them. But when I use the templates, musescore seems to have automatically made all grand staff instruments be “linked staff” I have never used this option, nor have I ever wanted to. Is there any way that I can make the staffs not linked without removing the instrument all together and resetting all panning and sound font settings?

MuseScore never converts any standard staves into linked staves, and in fact, it doesn't even have the capability of doing that if you wanted to try. So I'm guessing either you did in fact create them as linked without realizing it, or they aren't in fact linked at all, but perhaps merely have the barlines connected (which is not the same thing at all).
So in order to understand what you actually mean, we'd need you to attach your score and explain in more detail what it is about it you want to change, and then we can advise better.

This is the source score, I haven't edited it since I used it to make the templates. I have made templates out of it and copies of it. The copies are perfectly fine but once I edit and make templates from it, the staffs appear with a white check mark next to them and when i place one note in bass clef (for example) the same note will also appear on the treble clef (a few ledger lines down)

I loaded each of these three scores, but as far as I can tell, none of them contain any linked staves at all. Can you tell me which of the three actually demonstrates the problem, and then give precise steps to reproduce the problem?

It didn't present to me when I opened what I sent you (Specifically "THE GREEN FLASH (full)". but it did when i opened what i sent. saved it as a custom template, opened the template and tried writing in notes for a hidden (red staff) marimba.

Screen recordings seldom help. What we need is a single file we can open in MsueScore and precise steps to reproduce a problem starting from there. Best to list those steps numerically, like:
1) open file
2) select first measure of marimba part, top staff
3) enter note input mode
4) press 5 C to enter a quarter note C
then say what result you expected, and what result you got instead. I get the idea that somehow your steps might involve creating a new score from a template, or perhaps visiting Edit / Instruments to check the status of the "linked" column, but again, it's just not clear, and as as far as I can tell, none of these scores have any linked staves and nothing I could think of to try resulting in linekd staves appearing. athat's why ewe need precise step by step instructions we can follow.

This is the source (original) score used (all software is on windows 10 and latest version of musescore)
Steps:
1.) Click attached file
2.) click "save" option on file explorer popup
3.) allow file to save in browser
4.) click bottom left hand corner prompt with file name and file type
5.) allow file to open in musescore program
6.) once file has loaded, open the "instruments" tab
7.) scroll in instrument list until the first "crotales". marimba (single staff) will be underneath, with "Marimba (Grand Staff)" following once underneath "Marimba (Single staff)"
8.) click arrow on the left hand side of the "Marimba (Grand Staff)" text
9.) see that on current file, the instrument does not have a thick white check mark to the left of either "treble clef" or "Bass clef" texts
10.) return to this page and click attached file again
11.) in file explorer, click the "Documents" tab on the left side of the screen
12.) scroll to "Musescore3" option
13.) double LEFT click "Musescore3" option
14.) after being taken to the "Musescore3" page in file explorer, double LEFT click "Templates" option.
15.) rename file: "TGF TEMPLATE TEST" (optional but will help file be found later on
16.)click "save" option
17.) allow file to save in browser
18.) close browser DOWNLOAD PROMPT. (Closing browser will not affect anything in musescore but the steps will still need to be read)
19.) click on Musescore program in task bar (should still be open)
20.) Click "Create New Score" option on top left corner (Box with plus inside)
21.) "New Score Wizard" will appear
22.) Title, subtile, composer, etc... options are not necessary. (may be filled out if preferred)
23.) click "next" option
24.) on "choose template file" page in "New Score Wizard". choose "custom Template" option
25.) click "TGF TEMPLATE TEST" template
26.) click "next"
27.) on next slide, click "finish" option
28.) open the "instruments" tab
29.) the same "Marimba (Grand Staff)" instrument will be in the same place as before, scroll down to it.
30.) click arrow on the left hand side of the "Marimba (Grand Staff)" text
31.) the Marimba (Grand staff) option (SHOULD) be exactly the same (on my PC a thick white check mark appears to the right of the "Treble clef" and "Bass Clef" text attached to the "Marimba (Grand Staff)" Instrument.
32.) close instruments tab
33.) ON ACTUAL SCORE. scroll down to the red staff instruments
34.) scroll to first "Marimba" under the "Cym Hide" instrument underneath first "crotales"
35.) Left click on the whole rest in first measure of the "Marimba" treble clef to highlight it.
36.) click (N) key on keyboard.
37.) click (A) key on keyboard.
38.) a single A should appear on ONLY the first measure of the marimba's treble clef (On my PC the same note appears in both the treble clef and bass clef creating one note that was intentionally placed on the treble clef, and one note unintentionally placed on bass clef that is the same note in the same octave but showing the ledger lines in the bass clef, I am unable to delete the (A) in the bass clef without also deleting it in the treble clef.)

I think its somehow caused by having linked parts, which then influences the template creation somehow.
If I remove all parts from your template score and save-as that as a template; then new scores created from that one are not affected at all.
Note that it isn't just your Marimba's being affected, the Synths are affected as well

Aha, I guess it has to do with the fact that your template has the parts already generated - that's not really expected and probably not tested. Normally one doesn't generate parts until one is closer to being done with a score. But I can also verify this doesn't work correctly.
Thanks, BTW, for the detailed steps! For future reference, you can normally simplify a bit - just saying "open musescore" rather than describing in detail where to find the program icon, or "open attached file" rather than walking through the mechanics of downloading and saving files :-)

Oh okay, the parts thing does make sense. I didn't think it would have much of an affect, I always open them once the instrumentation is finalized so that I can make individual sheets for players as I go along to see how something would work when played live. I was going to just leave the templates I had already made the way they were, but I had just installed a new soundfont and had to refresh the templates or I would have to go through the process of editing all of the instrument sounds in the mixer with every score I open.
And yeah, I probably should have made the steps a little bit more simple, I was trying to be as descriptive as possible to make sure I didn't miss anything haha. Thank you for the help!!

The is is a template made with the source score. This and the rest of the templates all have the check next to the grand staff instruments and wont allow placing notes in specific staffs.
