change percussion noteheads?

I am writing a conga part. For this I need to change the noteheads, so I can show the different sounds made on one conga. It seems the programme refuses to change notehead shapes in percussion parts, while it does change them in other parts. How can I get the percussion part to notate correctly? (I dont want to have to go through writing one parts for playback and another for the musician performing the part!)
