Hide instruments only in some sections of the score?

Hello everybody,

I'm actually editing a baroque cantata consisting of several sections with different instrumentation (Recitativo, Aria, Duetto, Corale etc.). I want to have all these sections in one score so that it will be easier to create the differnt parts in the end.

Now the problem is: In each section, I would like to have only those instruments/voices that really participate in this particular section (so I don't want empty staves of all the other instruments). At the same time I also want to show all the participating instruments in the first system of each section. And that's where I get problems: I tried to do this by choosing "Always hide empty staves", which worked well in most of the cases. But with the arias, it didn't work because the solo voice only sets in after a longer orchestral prelude. So the solo voice isn't among the instruments shown in the first system of the section, because it only has rests in this section.

So what I would like to have is one of the two following options:
a.) choose a group of instruments that is always shown in one section (I wouldn't care about the empty staves), but not in other sections (what I mean: I don't need the empty basso solo part in the soprano aria)
b.) for each individual section: show all instruments that participate in the first system of this section, but hide all instruments that doesn't participate in this section.

Is there any possibility to get this? I hope someone can help me! :-) Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I hope I managed to explain what I want to have - as I'm not a native speaker, I find it sometimes difficult to find the right expressions...

There is no direct ability to control which systems get empty staves hidden and which don't, but you can create a white or transparent staff text that and then Ctrl+Shift+drag it to your palette for easy reuse. Then select the range of measures you wish to not hide and click the palette element to apply that text to all of them. That's the best I can think of for now. Hopefully someday MuseScore will support more options here.

If they do not achieve what you want, just come back and explain in more detail what you need.

I have a different but related requirement:
I'd like to dispay/hide different instruments in different sections
For example on the first section (Intro) I want to display the voice and 2 different basse parts (even if the guitar is also playing). Then on the second section (Solo) I want to display the bass in standard and tab notation. And on the Outro section I want to display the voice and only one bass part.
To achieve that in MuseScore 4 I process easch section at a time, use the instrument panel to hide the desired instrument, print the full score in pdf and then edit the pdf to remove the unwanted sections !

The much simpler way to achieve this result is with the "Hide empty staves" option in Format / Style / Score. If the hidden staves are not currently empty because you are relying on them for playback purposes, that's fine, just use separate permanently-invisible staves for the playback.
